I was always curious about David Hockney’s Pool with Two Figures. It’s a classic painting capturing a moment in time, but I always wondered “What happens next?” What happens to the guy in the pink blazer? So I started playing around, and this series is the result.

“God keeps his joy in The Matisse Chapel in Vence, France. He keeps his tears at The Rothko Chapel.” Brad Chisholm
Abstract art ended with Mark Rothko’s final works. The dark canvases can be experienced at The Rothko Chapel in Houston. The end of Abstract Expressionism was also foreshadowed by Roy Lichtenstein’s brush stroke paintings. Rothko’s spiritual achievement is profound and definitive, the visual equivalent of Chopin’s Nocturnes.
My series “The Artist’s Studio” explores our post-abstract time period with affection, irony and curiosity about what we will do next.
